My first shopping trip in Nicaragua

This post includes affiliate links, if you click & purchase I will receive a small commission but this will not affect your price so please click & support. Thank you

I arrived at the airport heading to my new life with 7 bags. American Airlines claims there was an embargo and that I could only bring 2 bags with me. I was pretty ticked off to say the least but now that I have arrived, they probably did me and the guy that drove me to my new temporary digs a big favor.

From 7 bags down to 2

From 7 bags down to 2

First of all, at some point I was going to have to figure out how to lug all that nonsense around and what I did bring resulted in almost $300 in overweight charges. That was just for 2 bags, can you imagine if I'd been able to bring them all?  I managed to get my blender here (good thing) and all cool weather clothes (not good). After all the time I took to downsize my life, I'm a little sad that the new life starts with the need to go shopping. Yes, I know, as a fashionista that is almost blasphemy to say but I'm in a temporary place with really heavy bags.

I have made a decision (it was made stateside) in order to keep my life light, I plan on wearing my items 4 maybe 5 times and then I am going to either donate or sell them. If you see something I am wearing that you like, I will try to find something similar if I am not your size or you can wait a short time & you can have it for a song.

So here is my first purchase fashion wise in Nicaragua. I'm a little travel weary so don't judge (that's not nice anyway) but I am here & happier than I appear in the picture.

Looking a bit travel weary but I'm cooler in this dress than in the leggings in my suitcase

I can tell you that there will be a lot of maxi dresses, palazzo pants & flowy wear in my future. Here are a few things on my wish list, what do you think of them?

This one I love because of the stripes, I'm sure you can tell from the dress I'm wearing that I have no issue with a great pattern.

POCKETS! That's what I love about the next dress and seriously, who doesn't love polka dots? They are so classic.

Power color anyone? I love a good red dress & this one will be perfect for those days that I am sauntering on the beach...yes, I said sauntering.

I saw this one & was like WHOA, I think you all will see me wearing soon as I figure out how to get mail in Nicaragua.

Is There Money In Your Closet?

There's nothing more invigorating than adding cool things to your closet. Do you  love shopping? Is shopping for you like a day at Disney. FUN! Do you enjoy not just the act of shopping but the ideas that come with how you will style what you buy? After a while though, the thrill of what's in your closet passes.

When the thrill is gone, you want to clear the clutter so to speak. You should think of your closet as an investment. You sow into it & when you sow, you should reap. Do you have things in your closet that you no longer wear? There are so many ways for you to monetize your closet when you are done with them.  This video will hopefully get you to thinking about what is there that you can get rid of. If you are looking for places both online & offline to offer your items, be sure to check out How to Monetize Your Closet

Shop Local: Lauren Nicole

I can give you several reasons why I like to shop local and why I like to shop small boutiques. I moved to Orlando almost a year ago & I pass this boutique frequently. There's usually a fun sign outside on the sidewalk and it draws my eye right to the display window. I hadn't ventured in until today.

The owner Lauren was gracious and allowed me to record in her store where she has some great finds at great prices. Her items are basically under $75, I found a few things that I want in the $40 range. Some of the items are trendy but she has a good amount of timeless pieces. As an over 40 girl, I'm usually looking for the right balance to go into my closet.

If you are not local & would like to support this boutique, she ships!  She always has fun signs like the one below, I shared another one of her signs on another blog post.  She has been in business for 4 years now, 3 in this location which she says is her dream spot. If you stop in to see Lauren, please tell her I said hello and that you learned of her shop here.

What's Old I New Again: Going Retro

As far as fashion is concerned, sometimes I think I missed my decade. 50's fashion was so elegant in so many ways. Ever so often, I have to take a walk back in fashion time. Pearls always seem to be my jewelry selection when I go retro.  I used a long necklace & just doubled it for a choker look. The bracelet came from one of the consignment boutiques I work with.

How To Monetize Your Closet

If you are anything like me, your closet is bursting at the seams. The question however, is how much of the stuff in there are you really wearing? I can tell you that on the daily, I look at something and just completely bypass it over & over. Not because its not great but I don't know, I am just not really feeling it.

After a while, stuff starts to get on your nerves, you start wondering why you bought it and its just in the way. That's when you break out the donation bin. Well, you paid for it and if its in good condition (which I suspect it is if you're really a fashionista), then why not earn money on it?

Let me guess, you don't have time? I have a solution for that.  You think no one will want it? I have a solution for that. You won't be able to get a decent amount for it? I have a solution for that.  Do you get my point? There are about a dozen different solutions to making your closet spit out money but the question is, do you want to keep looking at those things daily or do you want to clear the way for new stuff by making the old stuff pay you?

Time to Grow: Periscope

I love sharing my clothes, figuring out what to pull out of my closet has always been a little fun game I play. Trying to figure out which shoes would look great with what outfit. .Today, I decided to look like I'm ready to grow and I've been using Periscope to do that, so although this isn't periscope blue, I still had to choose blue. I had to wear fun jewelry and a fab pair of blinged out Gianni Bini heels.

STOP Trying to Fit In

Soooo, its been a usual. This time I hope I'm back on a more regular schedule, back in October, I shared that I'd been ill. Well 40 lbs lighter and getting closer to a diagnosis, I'm feeling optimistic. I decided to stop trying to fit in when I was really born to stand out. Don't you just love that saying?

In the past I've done a lot of shoes & fashion as a hobby blogger. My sites have always been monetized but again this was a hobby. Now I've decided to really grow my following and share what I learn in the process. I want to help you grow as well. Its no fun if I'm the only one reaping benefits, I need to learn from you as well. There will be things I will share and there will be things you too will share so I get to grow because we both help one another.

I will be asking you to sign up for my newsletter so you can be sure not to miss anything that can help you grow your beauty & fashion blogs. Stay tuned!

A Makeup Junkies Holiday Gift Guide

Ho, Ho, Ho! It's that time of year again where we overspend on all the fun thing we've been coveting for a while.  It's where we drop hints to loved ones in the hopes that we will not have to spend our hard earned dollars on things we want because they will spend theirs. What a glorious time of year!

Keeping in tune with that theme, I thought I would share some nice gift ideas for some of your loved ones (and maybe drop a few hints for some of mine).

If you are addicted to Youtube videos, you can not only get your favorite ones to show up on your big screen but you can watch a host of other things as well. When I realized I could get the most details out of a look that some of my favorite makeup guru's were sharing, this made this item a fan favorite. (I am not hinting at my loved ones that I need this, I already splurged and got it).

Hello, my name is Kellie & I'm a makeup junkie which means I always need a place to store new makeup. I am always adding to my collection and if you're reading this blog, there is a very good chance that you too have this issue. I like the idea that you can see through this so you know exactly what you've got and what you need.

I can't think of one makeup junkie who doesn't have something by MAC or who doesn't want something by MAC in their makeup case. This palette has 9 different shades of eyeshadow, so many looks, so little time!

Don't you hate it when you have a specific color lipstick in mind only to realize you don't have that color? Well, fear no more, NYX has a lot of great colors and if you're buying this for someone else, it's not an arm and a leg.  If someone is buying it for you, it's not an arm and a leg (hinting at my loved one).

Polished nails are always so pretty, making your mani & pedi look perfect with these fun colors that are also quite festive, sounds like a great gift plan to me. It truly is love at your fingertips.

This one has something for every makeup junkie. Mattes, shimmers and lots of neutrals, I love neutrals. I did a giveaway on twitter for this one and it went quick! Folks who love makeup don't let these great gifts collect dust.

With this, a real makeup junkie wouldn't need anything else for at least 2 months :-) This kit seems to have it all and it would make a great gift for someone who really likes to have a different look frequently.

These are just  few great ideas for the makeup junkie in your life. What would you add to the list?

5 Awesomely Amazing Beauty Bloggers

I am a bit of a makeup junkie but it hasn't always been that way.  I didn't start wearing makeup until I turned 40 but I have always been fascinated by the people who could take a plain  face & turn it into WOW!

As I have learned more & more about makeup, I have a few people that I see as my "go to" people for how to do the job not just right but they are outstanding in the way they teach it & in the results they get.  In addition to learning new techniques, for me there is also some entertainment value. I won't get as adventurous as some of the looks shared by these bloggers but I do get a kick out of watching the transformations.

Jordan Liberty

First of all, have you seen him?  He has these bold blue eyes that just make you want to look at his videos for no other reason than those EYES! lol I just happened to be surfing the internet a few years ago when I "discovered" this wonderful makeup artist.  In fact, my very first airbrush makeup look was inspired by a look that he shared.

Jordan is a professional makeup artist who uses the #GiveGoodFace and I would agree that he does indeed.  He has models of different ages & colors and always takes a minimalist approach to his techniques which really appealed to me.  Since I am not a professional and since I came to become a makeup wearer late in the game, I don't want to pile it all on & he does a lot to let the natural you show through.  Be sure to check him out & subscribe to his channel.

Destiny Godley

I cannot remember exactly how I came across Destiny Godley but once I did, I was hooked.  Here was a chocolate girl like me!  That made me excited & I knew that if these eye shadows were showing up on her, they would show up on me.  She gave me "permission" to be bold because she would wear colors I would only side eye in the store and she wore them on her eyes AND on her lips.  I will be honest, as far as online makeup guru's I don't think she's gotten her due, the girl is bad!  She shares not just her makeup but her hair journey as well and I think if you haven't checked her out yet, you're missing some good stuff, especially if you're chocolate.

Wayne Goss

If you are into makeup and have not heard of this fella, that would shock me.  Seriously, he is so much of what makeup seems to be on Youtube.  Is it by design that these makeup artists are beautiful people?  He has taught me so much and he really breaks down the information that he shares so novices like me can not only do it, but hopefully do it right.  The techniques he teaches with traditional makeup can be replicated with the airbrush and because he tells you what it should look like you can duplicate what he shares.  He is by far one of my favorites so if you have not checked him out, please get your butt on over there & do so.

Have you ever wondered how many of the things you find in the beauty section of Pinterest really work?  We see them, think they're cool so we pin them but how often do you actually try some of the things you pin?  Well Ellko (Ellie)  takes those beauty hacks that we pin & tests them.  It's like a suspense thriller sometimes because you never know what's going to happen next.  Be sure to go check her out.

Chanel Boateng

I almost think that if you're American, a British accent is pretty cool and it's especially cool when its had by a chocolate woman.  In addition to her beautiful accent is the fact that she is dark chocolate and Iove to see what looks she will create.  In one of her videos, she surprisingly uses self tanner.  I really do enjoy the bloggers that make you consider getting a little innovative with your look, I also enjoy it when the bloggers get together to support one another.

Who are your favorite beauty bloggers?  I hope I have provided a good mix here and there is a lot to learn, let me know who your favorites are.
